Men's Guide To Celebrate Style For Holiday 2009 from Tom Julian ...
Why is this a must-have for every man? According to Julian, it's a versatile piece that can be dressed up or down - and makes a great gift. "From wools to cashmeres, and zippered accents to hook-and-eye closures, the half-placket pullover works for any man, and age appropriate options can be found everywhere at retail," he says, suggesting you pair it with a neutral tailored pant and experiment with different textures, patterns and colors to suit your individual style. This trend may have been more suited to women's clothing in the past, but quilting is now showing up in man's every day wear. "Quilting is the perfect graphic accent to add a touch of luxe to a man's wardrobe," Julian notes. "Whether it's a minimal nuance like quilted elbow patches or a stand-out piece like a quilted tuxedo, this trend can be very versatile and classic." Look for it in quilted hunting jackets and knits, and even accessories like bags, shoes, belts and gloves. Obviously it's awesome to drink, especially at the holidays. But Fall 2009 runways were predominantly purple, with Holiday taking it that next step with richer and warmer tones of wine, claret, russet, and merlot. "Wine adds depth to traditional winter fabrics and constructions, and provides an understated pop of color to any Holiday wardrobe," says Julian. To wear wine like a rock star, pair a deep merlot blazer over a camel sweater, or try a merlot-patterned shirt paired with a burgundy tie. Simple, succinct and necessary. "For those who value performance and value, consider the trench coat, the car coat or a down puffer," recommends Julian. "For those who look for style, a washed leather motorcycle jacket or a military canvas coat can be great options." He also suggests looking for extra details like zip-out linings and waterproof fabrics, as they can make a big difference in cold temperatures. They say a classic never dies, and tweed is no exception to that rule. But in recent years, it's been updated with cropped silhouettes and styles. "Tweed is not just for college professors anymore," notes Julian. "Look for tailored cuts this season, such as mandarin collar tweed suits or slimming belted trenches, as well as tweed accents on shirts and sweaters." And while it's certainly stylish to have it represented in your jackets, vests and pants, don't forget tweed can also make an appearance in accessories like ties and fedoras, too!
