Phil and Shawna in China - A little obsessed with Chinese silk....

Yet another male friend of ours wanted to have a suit made so we went to the tailor the 2nd week in a row. My order of duplicating some shirts that I think will fit during the entire pregnancy is still pending, but I knew that when I went today. However, I brought in another shirt and a pair of pants that needs a seam repaired. I fell in love with the selection of stretchy fabrics that I chose from for the new shirt. Happiness! After we ordered Mike's suit, Phil's pants, and my shirt, we left the tailor's stall. Mike had been commenting on how he was interested in getting another Chinese silk shirt made "some time" so I brought him to the silk vendor. And oh my, as usual I was in heaven. Mike found an amazing silk fabric that is black with red dragons on it. He decided to make the shirt today, so we decided to get Luke since he barters for the material and then makes the clothing. Well, of course, I only found 23928232328903283232 patterns of silk I was in love with today and came with many good ideas. I decided to buy a deep deep emerald green fabric and have a blazer made. I am also considering having a large purse and a computer bag of silk made. Probably some custom scarves too. Most of what I still want to do with silk for clothing will need to wait until after the baby since I'm too big at this point, but I have a few more outfits in mind. Seriously, I am obsessed with Hangzhou silk (the best made in China). With Luke's help I was only paying around 13 per yard, which is amazing considering I've usually seen it at least 20 per yard for the "crappy" silk and up to 150 per yard (ouch!) for the better silk. Hangzhou silk is triple layered, hand stitched, and recognized as the best in the world by many experts. The funny thing is, I've been able to sometimes get the price as low as 5 per yard, but that's usually when I've had a dress made since it's more overall material. And I just let Luke do all the talking. :) In any case, just like my obsession...
